Back in the day that we had one on a loader, Dad used to put on his cornpicker side shields with cardboard fastened. This kept the heat from the engine contained, and we had much less carb icing. May not be helpful, but if you can put sides on it it'll help.

My two cents,

Rich,

The carb heat devices are a cure, but they also rob power when they're not needed. Along the lines of prevention - if there's an airport close, you might try some low octane AVgas. They also might have a product called FIZZY there, which effectively lowers the temp/humidity combinations that will cause frost on your carb.

Rich, you can trade your "A" for a 520 with a heated manifold or put an all-fuel hot manifold on it. [well that's one option anyway]
~Over the years I have seen all kinds of heat ovens bolted, wired & just kind of stuck on over the carb & intake manifold to fight that frosting problem.
~My old "A" frosts up pretty bad in 30°- 40° weather when the humidity is high, but it doesn't really effect the running. You might want to make sure the air cleaner doesn't have any moisture in it, or in the oil that's in the cup. Get the engine up to temperature & keep it there [use something over the radiator if the shutters don't work]. There's always the tin-foil route if the frosting is non avoidable.
