I reinstalled my governor to the tractor, and now am preparing to reinstall the magneto. I have a large "snap ring", John Deere original part number B276R, that is left-over after the governor install. I was quite certain that this goes on the mag end of the governor shaft, but am now having my doubts, as I cannot get it to "fit" to anything. The I&T Shop Manual for the A shows an illustration that has this snap ring on the mag end, but is not clear where it goes. Can anyone help me? Thank you.

JKC, there is a snap ring that goes in a groove in the R/H governor bearing bore that the R/H governor shaft bearing spring [washer] stops against to maintain pressure on the R/H bearing. You will probably have to pull the L/H governor bearing cover & pull the shaft to the left to see the snap ring groove.
