This must be an "A" All electric start or lighting A's from late late 39-early 47 had the slant dash. The late 39-40 B's had the slant dash. When the A's and B's got there 6 speeds in 41. The shifter would hit the B's slant dash. The A kept the slant dash as the shifter didn't hit it. There was many, many thousands of slant dash A's made. There were not many B's made with a slant dash. Your A is not rare. It is very common. Enjoy your tractor. If your tractor is a 44, it is a war, cast iron frame tractor.

When JD put electric on the A+B they had to put a battary some place. This was an option when new or added on later in a kit.
