I have just restored my 46 b and put new gauges on. The gauges are from the local auto store and the oil pressure is 5 to 7lb. What can I do to Increase it to 10 to 15 lb. ?

u really need to get a JOHN DEERE Oil Pressure gauge. U really need all New JOHN DEERE gauges. Those gauges from a Auto parts store are useless on a John Deere. They r made for 4,6 and 8 cylinder motors.they would do good on farmalls and Olivers and all them but not 2 cylinder John Deeres Hope this helps

There are several things that lower oil pressure. Clogged filter, wear on mains, rod bearing, a misadjusted pressure regulator, worn oil pump bushing/gears, wrong/thin oil. First thing I'd do is change filter/flush crankcase/use good 20-30 weight oil. After that adjust the pressure regulator....

Keith, what is the resolution on the gage you have? If it's a 0-60 psi, or even a 0-30 psi the resolution at 5-7 psi is probably inaccurate. You really need a gage that is calibrated to work in the 10-20 psi range.
~The oil pressure should be taken at fast idle [WOT] with a hot engine & good oil. The oil pressure at idle will usually be lower & that is normal. ~If it is low at both idle & fast idle, you can pull the crankcase cover & turn the adjusting screw [on top of the filter head] in a turn or two to see if the pressure can be increased. If it is low & won't come up with a regulator screw adjustment, suspect a warped oil filter can top, or blown filter head gasket, or worn bearings, or diluted oil, or broken internal oil line. Sometimes just going to straight 30 weight oil [if you are using 10W30] will improve the oil pressure.

Keith, you really need another gage. Using a 100 psi gage to measure 10-15 psi oil pressure is like using a bathroom scale to weigh a bird. ~Put about 15 psi of air in an old car tire then measure it with a few different pressure gages to verify you really have 15 psi in it, then hook your oil pressure gage to tire a inflator nozzle & check it's accuracy [or lack there of]....
