I'm looking for 50's era jd combines used to harvest rice. What models were available and were the engine driven or pro driven? Where can I find more info. on what types of JD implements were used for rice farming during the 50's? I need some to go with my 50's era tractors.

I can't imagine combining rice with any of the pull-types Deere built in the 1950's. Self-propelleds were the 55 and 95. There was a rice version of the 45, too, but I don't think it came until the 1960's.

Combine Man,

Before self-propelled combines, what was used to combine rice? Being a midwesterner, I'm not familiar with rice harvesting at all.

Can't say I've ever seen a pull type PTO driven combine running in rice, but Model # 12-A, and #25 were made in the 50's I think... And the model #30 was made after that.

Dr.Evil,

I looked through all my old brochures on the 25 and the 30 combines and didn't find a thing that mentioned combining rice. I've never seen a rice harvest in progress, so I don't know anything about it. But, how was rice combined before the self propelled combines became common?

The 55 is one of them.
