It is under a gravity wagon. It has no ID tag or markings. I know it is JD because of the "JD" script on all four hubs, and a little green paint left here and there. It is not the heaviest duty wagon, and looks fairly old. It's lucky it got put under a gravity bed, if it was used to haul tobacco it would have been junk years ago!

I am posting a link to another picture over on the "Help Identify" photo gallery, one of the tongue(it looks possibly homemade to me) and front axle. Thanks in advance!

I was glad to see the model numbers the other guys put up. There are a jillion, six hundred thousand of those things down here in the South. They all spent their first life as cotton trailers. Now after reincarnation, they are fuel trailers, header trailers, flat bed wagons, etc. Even the bare running gear will still bring a couple of hundred bucks at auction as long as it has that JD emblem on the hub. A guy knows he can get parts for it.

Tongue looks like what I remember them to be - that's the way they made them!

It looks like it is a 943. John Deere made 943,953 and 963 wagon running gears, roughly 40-50 years ago. The 963 was the heavy duty gear, and had a "leaf spring arrangement under the bolsters. The 953 had extra reinforcing and the place where the bolsters were attached was raised above the axle beam. The 943 was the lightest duty gear, and the bolsters were attached to the axle beam. From what I can see, your wagon lacks the features found on my own 953, so I am suggesting it is a 943 wagon gear, estimated to be about 50 years old or so.

The John Deere wagon gear on your wagon is worth quite a bit more than the gravity box it has mounted on it.

If I remember correctly, the 943 had different axle construction. I'm pretty sure this is a 953 or 63 which was a heavier wagon.
