Happy new Year to all! I got a great Christmas present - a '52 MC crawler. The hydrolic cylinders are leaking. I have never worked with them before. Is this something I can do myself or does it need to be done professionally? I love and prefer to do things myself but don't want to mess them up. Any suggestions, manuals I should buy or videos to watch would be greatly appreciated. Love to work on them old "deere's".
Jim

Jim, Hydraulic cylinders are not that difficult to re-build providing the shafts are in good condition and you have the correct tools. I have re-built backhoe and loader cylinders without any problems. I did have to purchase a "gland wrench" and a "600 ft/lb torque wrench" for those big ones. (4" bore) A 3/4" drive socket set also comes in handy. If you can purchase a parts and service manual with the cylinder exploded views (showing all internal parts and part#s) they usally have a step by step on rebuild. I would make sure all seals and wipers are availible before you tear them apart.
