Hello, I have a 41 B with a " Baker multi - valve" on it. this unit bolts between the rear lift cover and the lift housing. The unit then has a lever which comes up the left side (sitting forward on the seat) and this acutates the hyd. power. It has one pioneer quick fitting, and appears to have a second port plugged. I haven't got ahold of a cylinder to try it out. I have asked around with most everyone I thought would know what this is. Cound ANY one enlighten me on it this is live power, and if its one way only, or can be made two way. THanks Joe

Echo both replies you got below. I thought someone had the insturcions for the Baker valve posted somewhere on the internet. I have copies saved away somewhere around here but not sure where to find them right now. Yes, there is something that needs to be done to convert it from one-way to two-way operation.

First of all thanks! I am finally happy to hear someone who dosn't just rinkle there forehead at me when I ask them about his valve. My email is jdjoe_97@yahoo.com. I would really really appreciate if you guys could look for those directions or point me to the link so I can figure this out. I intend to keep this tractor for ever and restore it. I know the valve make the tractor much more versital and useful. Thanks Joe

I found them, I found them !!!!!
The scans of the Baker valve instructions, I found them!!! What shall I do with them?
Who shall I send them to so they can post them for all to reference?
Someone had them posted at Photopoint website a few years ago but that site has been gone for well over a year now.

I would echo what was said below. I installed a Baker valve on a 38 G with powerlift so I could use a #5 mower with hydraulic lift. Worked and still works great(haven't used the lift in a while though) With the powerlift you had up or down but no part way, baker valve alowed use of a cylinder so you could stop anywhere you wanted. Even on power trol boxes you had the option of rockshaft or cylinder but not both so a baker valve ahead of the power trol gave you that option. I used the 2 side outlets for a double acting cylinder. Have the info on the valve somewhere if you want to send me an e mail I will check and see what needs to be done to change from singel acting to double acting cylinder. You have to go to a live pump to get live hydraulics. On the JD this was a pump between the mag/distributor and governor case. Have also seen live pumps driven from the fan shaft by belt or chain and even off of a sprocket on the flywheel.

Joe;

We uesd Baker valves on both our 44b and GM back in another life time when they were used for farming. Its a great add on for an old JD with Power lift.

The Baker Valve does not give you live power ( I had often wish that it did ). The PTO has to run to use the the hydraulics, and the PTO only runs when the clutch is engaged.

The setup that we used had a Pioneer Coupeler on each of the two outlets. Our units were bought from TSC when they really were a tractor supply place. Your unit probably came form the same place as it also is equipped with Pioneer Coupelers.

We always used two way cylenders. I think the way it works is when you move the valve foreward it routes pressure to the first outlet and returns in the seccond. When you move the valve in back it switches to route pressure out the seccond and returns on the first outlet.

The rocker shaft for the cultivator lift is still controlled by the foot peddels. It't operation is not changed by adding the Baker Valve.

I think the setup you describe with one hose can be converted to the two hose version. I think there is something that has to be done inside of the valve assemblly to switch to two way( like adding a plug or something ). I don't really know though as it's been well over 40 years ago that I installed those units.

Have fun with the little B
