I have a 69 3020, and when i try to go from 3 to reverse or 2 to reverse it wants to go in really hard. it helps to idle the tractor down to full idle and it'll go in easier. any idea?

It could be what I think is wrong with my 64 model 3020. I believe that the levers and the rods that control the shifting in the trans. are wore out. In my thinking (for all that may be worth?) if those are wore its not going to let everything line up right inside. I know I replaced a rod on the shifter and through procrastionation have never really looked at it any more I don't think its in proper adjustment. That would be something to check into first off, hey it don't cost nothing to look at that. I know the levers on mine have alot of wear in the holes and I'm sure the rod that I didn't change has some wear on it. Sounds like a logical route to me anyhow.

It would be nice if it is the clutch being out of adjustment. More than likely it is the synchro clutches in the transmission. These go bad from towing the tractor if it is not placed in the tow position, or from riding the foot clutch.

It sounds like the clutch is hanging up. Try to adjust the clutch. If that dose not help it could be a bad bearing or blowen clutch or clutch hanging up on the splines.
