Does anyone know of either a aftermarket or true JD hyd front wheel assist kit for the 3020 series? Or is there a front end that can be adapted or modified to fit fairly easy. Any info or suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

I know they were offered on the 4520 also as I have one. I think the 4620 had it offered too. They were hfwd not mfwd. There was a company who did conversions aftermarket that was mfwd.

Its always fun to watch a polite pissing contest develop. (see previous posts) My Intertec book shows (1971) 3020`s both gas and diesel with a fwd option. My assumption is that would have to be hyd. assist, not mechanical. Please correct me if you know otherwise. I had a talk with a Deere salesman back in the mid seventies regarding Deeres Hyd. assist option. He claims Deere was not enthused about it as the Hydraulics demanded too much horsepower and for that reason was better suited for tractors above 135 Hp. MFWD would be available shortly for those desiring it in smaller tractors.

front wheel asist is not just the axle. it requires beside the axle, a bigger hydraulic pump, different plumbing, control valve assembly, electrical components (incl. a different power shift shift valve assembly or costly rotary swiches in qr ans sr). anyway, due to major chanches in chassis between 20 and 30 series, only 20 series axle will 'bolt on' your 3020. try to get a parts catalog and look for different parts.

DAVID IS CORRECT PLUS THAT 4 CU.IN PUMP WOULD TAKE ABT 25+HORSES TO RUN IT AND THE 3020 CANT AFFORD THAT.

This question has been asked before and I thought only the 4020 late in life was offered with front wheel drive. Someone also posted that the 3020 was also offered with front wheel drive. I must not have been the only one that didn't know about the 3020's front wheel drive,,,the sales dept and the people that put toghter the sales lit must have been left out of the loop. I only know of two 4020's that came into this part of the state when they were sold new. NEVER KNEW about the 3020's,,, NEVER SAW a 3020 with FWD. I would think that if there were such a thing as an after market front wheel drive, it would have to be a universal set up for many makes and models of tractors to even come close to to beening cost efective enought for a company to show a profit on something like this, so if there was such a thing, it would be advertized in every trade paper around. To find FWD at a junk yard and convert it to a 3020 would not only take alot of thought, at what point does it become more cost effective to trade the 3020 to a tractor that already has a FWD.

I know for a fact that JD made a hyd front asssit, I've seen two different ones...still know where one is(not for sale tho). My question was basically if anyone knew where to pick up a hyd asssit unit or did anyone know of a aftermarket version that would work without a ton of mods? Thanks for the input tho !

Mr. Hanley, I would suggest that you are misinformed----1969-up 3020 tractors WERE available with the hydraulic front-wheel assist, and I have both literature and sales information to prove it. Just because YOU haven't seen something, or it didn't come to Wisconsin, doesn't mean it doesn't exist!!!

When the 4020's came out with the FWD, THE FARM QUARTERLY did an atrical on the 4020. and the JOHN DEERE also ran an ad in that issue. Never saw any ads in any other farm mags at that time.

I'am not saying you are wrong. I"am saying John Deere did a very poor job with promotion.

Oh, I see, just because you didn't see it, Deere did a poor job of promotion----you need to get over yourself, I think.

As for FWA 20 series if you do the research you will find it was on option on 3020, 4020, 4320, and 4620s I don't believe it was available on the 4520 but if you know of one we would be interested in seeing it, We currently have 1 - 4020 fwa and 2-4620 fwa and are looking for any info on others out there and where they are located, we're in northern Indiana - if you can help us out that would be kindly appreciated. Thanks

Not sure of how many - one was on ebay in the last year and it said it was one of nine built w/ fwa and powershift - I really doubt that b/c a lot of guys just say what they think or feel and we have 2 - 4620 fwa w/powershift in our barn - i know they are rare but I don't think there's only 10 out there= there was a 4620 fwa out in Imperial Nebraska at the deere dealer for $16000 but it's not there anymore = it was on machinefinder.com
