Jeffro, Yes using a load yields the best true carb load adjustment, regardless if you have an implement you can attach to the belt (like a Baker Fan) or PTO (like a grinder/mixer) etc. If you have no load to attach, heres how to get it in the ballpark that works for me. Start with it (load needle) set at around 3/4 to 1 turn out from closed,,,,, , set throttle at Wide Open Throttle,,,,, richen (open) the load needle until she starts to black smoke out the stack and cut out (from running too rich),,,,, , then lean (screw in) the load needle just to where she stops black smoking out the stack and runs smooth. That may be a tad lean, cuz under a load more fuel is required, so if she starves under a load open (richen) her out a tad. On the idle needle, I set it initially at 1 3/4 to 2 out, then set throttle at idle, then lean (screw in) the idle needle till she starts to die,,,,, then richen (open) her back out about 1/4 turn till she idles smooth but not too much black smoke out the stack. If they are set right, if you suddenly crack the throttle from idle to wide open, she will take her gas, not cut out or hesitate, throw a puff or 2 of black smoke, and then be fine. After settign the load needle if she starts to cut out and starve for fuel under a load or even drivign in a high gear up a hill, richen (open) the load needle about 1/4 turn or so until she has power and fuel then under a load and dont cut out. Again, this is simply a method that works for me, although Im sure there are plenty other ways and opinions of skinning the same cat lol What are the problems and symptoms of it not running right as you claim????? ?? Is the ignition good and a good hot spark????? Is the fuel clean and fresh and water free????? Is the choke set right and wprking as it should??? Is the air cleaner bowl clean and has no water????? Post back your results and any more quesions or e mail jmn50@msn.com Good Luck n God Bless ya Jeffro John T
