I have taken an interest in first year electric start A's. Mr. Thinker says that there are "relatively few" produced but that the records didn't survive. I haven't asked Mr. Hobbs about this, but I'm sure that he would agree. :) Anyway, I have started to keep track of serial numbers, strictly for my own amazement. If anyone has one, or knows of one, please send me the number if it isn't any hasssle. There is no real bona-fide numbers on these tractors that I can find and if anyone has any information, I would love to hear it. Hoping to get a little something started here. Thanks, AC

Thanks for the info...But you know, in over 1 1/2 years of looking through auction reports, word of mouth, Green magazine and shows, I have only come accross about 11 of these. Now I know that there are more out there, and I just thought it would be a fun challenge...Thanks again, AC

Hi AC, I own a 1940 A That has electric start, the serial#493939. I don't know if had this from the factory. I've been told that most were added on after as a option from J.D. I don't know much more than this other than I'm glad mine has it because she can be pretty stubborn at times and everything is so tight on her that you can hardly roll her over by hand, hope this gives a little more info for you research. Dave, that is the earliest one that I have come across yet...Thanks to both of you so far...I have 491224 and have located another electric starter from '40, but haven't seen the tag yet...Everybody has to make a little place for themselves in their hobby, and that's what I m trying to do...spread the word...
