Yes, I know this site is for Tractor restorations, but I spend a ton of time and enjoy helping people on here and getting help myself and I’ve made several friends here and at Antique Tractor Electrical Seminars I have given. I just did a search on John T and it returned 73,000 hits. Anyway, I’ve decided to restore an old Grunow Floor Model Console radio which my grandparents purchased in 1941 to listen to WW II news where they had a son and 3 sons in law in battle, and when they told me how tough it was to have sons at war and I BELIEVED them. Then, my mother told me it was tough to have a husband in war (Battle of the Bulge) and I also BELIEVED her. However, we recently got news our Marine son was activated to Camp Lejeune then possibly overseas, and we say bye to him tomorrow, and only then did I not only BELIEVE, but UNDERSTAND the true feeling. I’m going to send my son off with the words of president Bush Tuesday night in the State of the Union Address when he said to the armed forces, ‘Your training has prepared you, your honor will guide you, you believe in America and America believes in you” For those of you so inclined, please pray for all our brave young military personnel and the families of today’s shuttle disaster. God Bless America. Ol John “T” Nordhoff in Indiana

Thank you all for your support and especially your prayers. I'm a Terre Haute native, but I've been in the Air Force for the past 16 years. I've been "over here" for quite a while now and recently learned that my stay here will total 179 days. Getting regular pictures of my 2 mean young 'uns over e-mail is one way of feeling closer to home. The other-believe it or not-- is seeing what all you fellers are up to at this forum. Believe me when I say your support and prayers are appreciated more than you know.

Let's not forget the person's who maintained and serviced the Columbia. They will never have any peace, always wondering if there was something they should have noticed or done better. The ship which was their pride and joy, killed the crew. And now they will be grilled by authorities over and over again, no matter if they errored or not. Facing friends, family, colleagues and themselves in the mirror will be heart wrenching.

WhenI arrived at church this morning, the floral arrangement was seven roses with a red, white and blue bow. The preacher prayed, ten, asked my wife who is the choir director to sing "taps".Did you know there are words to it? Not a dry eye for us old gis. "Day is gone, gone the sun, etc.

What is his job in the Marines? If he does go over, write and write often. That helps as much as anything. I'm sure it will help you too. Best of luck.

John T. & Family,
My thoughts & prayers are with you. I have three sons and think I understand a little. Please let your son know there's a lot of folks here that still believe in the USA and him.

God bless you and your son. Been there, done that. If it weren't for boys like your son, we wouldn't have this board to post on or any of our other freedoms that we so freely accept without a thought of how we got them.

John T, Thankyou for all the help you have given tractor fans, I like others will pray for your family and for families like yours who have people in the service. I can only imagine the stress of a mother or a father of service personel heading off into who knows what. Today is a tough day all around.Dan

Well sir Mr. T You forgot the part about bullets bouncing off your chest and being able to walk on water. Lets see > the archives go back to 1999 so 4 years of continuous posting would be over 50 posts a day 7 days a week. That is impressive seeing as there weren't 50 posts a day on average so you would have to respond to every post at last once and most twice for almost 4 years. I would bet if you ran a search on the name John you would find as many posts. Next time you want brag about yourself get your facts straight.

Brian -
Seems to me that this is a day of national loss and mourning. Your comments are way out of line.

What John T said is right and proper, heartfelt and true. Instead of quibbling about numbers of posts - your time would be better spent doing something that shows some respect for the greatest country on earth - like maybe sign up for the service and generate some respect.

Steve

Thanks Steve, Friend and fellow Hoosierrrrr rrrrr r.

(PS you asked for a comment on the IU v. Purdue game last week, although I live in Bloomington, I have degrees from both IU and PU, but I still support Purdue where I got my undergrad engineering degree)

Anyway, I support free speech as much as anyone, and my son, Lance Corporal Brandon Nordhoff, USMC, like many others may be fighting and risking their lives so all opinions, right or wrong, may be heard, and our beliefs and freedom survives, including the persons opinion above. Most all in this hobby are kind caring wonderful people though, and Im prayign for all the service men and women and shuttle families, regardless if someone may disagree with my opinion. We all have that freedom in this Country (won by the blood of our ancestors) to support causes we believe in, or to choose not to do so, and thats the very freedom my son and others may be risking their lives to uphold. God Bless you and all the wondeful people here and the good Old USA, John T Nordhoff, Conservative Christian and proud father of all my children. Like the slogan on many American Legion or VFW posts says, "All gave some, some gave all."

John T,
Hoorah for the 1st, 2nd, 9th, 14th and other amendments as they were written - versus the convoluted interpretations of the same we have today. And here's to the real strength of the USA: free markets, free choice, measure by merit and the drive to risk it all to go higher, faster, farther in deed and in life.

If he'd just called you a G_D_ lawyer, or an effin' spark chaser, I would have chuckled. As you're a Purdue loyalist, I'm also disinclined to rise to a defense. And at any other time this IU, Air Force, ASU alum might have considered a jarhead joke to boot. But there is a time and a place for everything - like the man said about free speech, yelling fire, and theatres. So thanks for your blessing and here's wishing your son Godspeed -- and like Pat just said, Semper Fidelis.

Steve

Hey John T. I'm a retired Marine, and live close to Camp Lejeune. Theres a lot of us here in Jacksonville and area that pay close attention to all your sons and daughters in the Corps. We are a caring community, so rest assured that your son will be OK here. And if he goes overseas, his Marine buddys will look after him, as he will them. In the meantime, if there is anything I can personally do for your son, e-mail me . Semper Fi! Pat in NC

Steve-
I couldn't agree more. It is a day of national loss and mourning. It isn't a day to brag about your own personal accomplishments. Sorry if I offended you but this guy bragging about himself on a day of national mourning kind of ticked me off. My heart & prayers are with the nation and the servicemen in foreign countries.

Brian,
Some guys need to walk around a subject a bit before they get to the point. Other guys (myself included) sometimes like to give their bona fides. Yet others feel constrained to stay on topic (as opposed to guys like me who are wiling to talk about anything at any time). I suspect John T had a bit of all that in mind. Maybe the important thing to do is separate the wheat from the chaff, and consider the real heart of what he said. Your apology wasn't necessary, but certainly accepted; I think we all join you in prayer for the people who punched a hole in the sky above Texas today, and the people who will face the same kind of danger half way around the world in the days to come.

Steve- Beating around the bush is one thing but making a big deal out of how many posts he claims to have placed is another. He couldn't have possibly posted that many times. Stuff that like that usually doesn't bother me but using a national tragedy and a son in the service to do it does. I have been hanging out here for a long time and this guy likes to toot his own horn. Most of the stuff he posts is copied from others anyway. I apologized to you for offending you. I didn't apologize to him because he doesn't deserve it.

I MUST disagree with you that "he doesn't deserve it". I can speak for myself and probably many others when I say that Ol' John has been an excellent source of wisdom and common sense, and not just on the green stuff. I would even say that a few of the fellows on this (and other) boards would have long ago sold their "projects" and moved on to other hobbies had it not been for guys like John to bail them out and help them along.
I think you DO owe the man an apology, and when the time comes that folks ask for *your* help by name on this board, then you will have the right (and the responsibility) to answer to the best of your knowledge and maybe even with a little well deserved stroke of the ego. Thanks for being there John T!
