If you have the Model 127 Gyramor and its serial number is 003, I have serial number 001 and 002 is about 8 miles away. Both are still in use. Its hard to find a cutter that will give as good a level of service as these models.

All three were bought new from Ungar Motors in Harwood Maryland back in about 1953 or so. Serial number 005 was owned by a neighbor (Leroy Hershey) until he sold it about 10 years ago at a Young Farmer's auction. I tried to buy it but was outbid when it got to where I could have bought a new one for what it went for.

My biggest problem with mine is the deck has rusted out. Maybe one of these days,,,,, I'll cover it with more sheet metal,,,, or maybe I'll just put up with the grass and weeds blowing through the top. I did put new rims on it last year so from a distance, it looks almost new!
Good luck with yours.

Hello, You stated that a Model 127 serial # 005 sold at a auction, do you remember what is sold for? Thanks C Scott

Hi Dan I have a john deere 127 brush cutter. my dad bought it new in 1968. Still have sales ticket. If yours has a slip clutch if the brush cutter sits over a couple of months, take the clutch apart or it will tear things up as Mike says.I tore up over two hundred dollars worth on it when it was only about three years old.It had sit all winter got in a hurry and paid for it Good luck on yours. Archie

I have one of those old pull types...not much good if you got much ground to cover---but mine will knock out trees I would not consider using my 10 ft on. If you ever want to sell that thing, let me know. the parts are hard to find.

Hard to sat what you have without more info. The first rorory mowers J.D. made were the 127 (with a 8' deep body and cut 5') and the 207 (with a 15" deep body and cut 5 1/2') made in the mid 1950's through the 1960's and I think into the 1970's. The gearboxes on these were square castings and the sheet medal angled up to the gearbox from the top of the deck. When J.D. went to the 506 5' (they also had a 606 6' and a 706 7') the gearbox came up from the deck in a round shaft and the flared out to clear the gears in the box. Then J.D. went to light duty, med duty and heavy duty mowers in 5' 6' 7'. I am not up on all those models. We had a 127 and it was quite the mower. Unbelivable what it would cut! The slip cluch set up on us and we bought used a 506 for what the parts would of cost on the 127. Is the seral tag on the back of the gearbox cover? That rings a bell for the 127. The tag should say what model it is. Never saw a serial tag on our 506.

My Dad has two Model 127s, one his dad bought used in the early 60s. It has a tag on the back of the gearbox cover, the serial number of 003. The other one we bought a couple of years ago, no serial tag on it. They definately can cut just about anything. Any ideas on a source of a wheel/tire for one, both are down to just rims.
