36 A, when it jumps out of gear does the shift lever move? If it does, suspect worn bearings, twisted sliding gear shaft splines, worn sliding gear inner splines, and or weak & worn shift fork detents... If it doesn't move, suspect the counter shaft bearings, worn input shaft bearings or worn sliding shaft bearings. ~The locking up doesn't seem to be consistent with the jumping out of gear but with enough brake shaft wear, bearing wear, or worn rear axle &differential bearings it could happen. ~See if the countershaft has any looseness & check the outer input shaft bearing & bearing bore in the 1st reduction cover. ~If nothing obvious is found with a look & shaking of the gears & shafts you will probably have to do a tear down to inspect the bearings, shafts & differential bearings. ~How easy do the shift forks move? If real easy, you might be able to keep it from popping out of gear by reshaping the detent plunger holes & increasing the spring pressure a little. ~In order to determine where your problem lies you will have to determine what is moving out of engagement when it pops out of gear. You might even have to rig the throttle & steering so you can drive it with the trans cover removed to see what is happening & moving in the trans.....
