The 620 had a redesigned engine with a shorter stroke, aluminum pistons, spark plugs in the redesigned cylinder head (rather than in the block), higher rated rpm, and 20% more power than a 60. One of the biggest improvements of the 620 was the Custom Powr-trol hydraulic system. This system allowed use of remote cylinders and rockshafts at the same time compared to the 60 which only allowed use of either the rockshafts or the remote cylinder, not both. The rockshafts are also automatic depth and load sensing which was an improvement over the 60. This is just a small amount of the information in "The John Deere 20 Series" written by J.R. Hobbs. Hope it helps.

Hey Jim Bob, for one, the 620 could have a true heavy factory 3 point hitch, while the 60 was still primarily a pull type tractor with rear rock shafts intended to lift cultivators and other implements. JD made add on 3 pt hitches like the 801 which used the rock shafts to lift, but it wasnt possible to operate BOTH them and remote hydraulic applications at the same time. On the 620, the 3 pt and remote hydraulics can both be used together. Both could have live PTO and Power Steering. I have owned both and 70's and 720 and 730's, but prefer the the 20 series for most appplications. Ol John T Nordhoff

620 is the same power as a 70. I like the 30 series better. lol Jon
