Of all the boards I read and respond to, this is the one with the least response. Why is that?

I'm not looking for any big thank you's here, but I would really appreciate knowing that what I spent time researching and sending was received and read.

Whatever happened to common courtesy and manners?

I'm not ashamed to post my real name and location. Why do the folks with questions not post their identification?

Stan,
I have to admit I forget about this board alot. It's been awhile. I did post some time ago, and you helped me out with replacement parts for my mid 50's JD petal tractor. I thought I sent a Thank you back then, but if I didn't "Thank you". I'm not a big toy collector. The ones I have are all replicas of the tractors my Dad and Grandpa owned. And the ones I currently own. All John Deere. GP, D, styled B, styled A, 50, 60, 520, 630, and a 730. I spend all the spare time my wife will allow working on finishing the restoration of my 60, so I can get it painted this spring. Then I have to get started on the A. So I'm on the John Deere board frequently. By the way, both of these tractors were purchase new by my Dad and Grandpa. I also just located my Dad's 730, so as soon as I scrape up enough cash, that will be the following project. I thought it was an impossible task as he sold it in 1985 when he retired. Nearly 10 years of effort finally paid off. Loren Flemming

Loren,

Good to hear from you! Yes, you did indeed respond, so don't feel like I was picking on you, OK? There have been a couple of good responses over the months, and I'm beginning to realize that this board is not used that much.

Sounds like you have your plate pretty full with projects, and I sure hope you get that 730 back in the family soon. I know what it feels like, although I don't have my dad's '41 B, I have an identical one. One problem surfaced a few months ago, however. When I bought my '41 B back in '92, I was so pleased to have one just like Dad's '41. My brother found some old Farm Account Books a while back, and Dad's tractor was actually a '43...so much for old memories, eh? That would explain why I remember so many things about when he was farming with horses...things that I would not have remembered if I was 4 when he got the tractor but certainly did remember because I was 6 when he got it.

Take care,

Stan

Stan,
That sounds like my uncle. He just can't figure out why I don't remember the threshing machine, before they traded it for a JD 12A combine. I have to original receipt when that trade was made. The receipt detail is: JD A, 2 row cultivator, 3 bottom plow, manure spreader, and a 1/3 share in a 12A combine, trading in his share of the threshing machine. This was 1950. I was 2 years old. Another part of history, Dad bought his farm in 1941. He was 21 yrs. old. Grandpa's farm was 12 miles away. They move that threshing maching (on steel wheels) that 12 miles every year for harvest. Hello Stan & Indy,
I've often wondered the same thing myself myself. Although, I haven't been posting much anywhere here lately, so I can't complain. I've been very busy at work this year and don't see a slow-down in the near future - Which is a good thing, but it sure is cutting into my lurking time.
I didn't realize the two of you were as involved with the hobby as you are.
I'll try to watch this board a little closer and as least speak to you fellers.

Mitch,

Good to hear from you. Did you ever make contact with Al Meier in Jacksonville about the IH 3444 front-end loader/backhoe?

I will say that you are one of the few exceptions to my question, and I'm glad of it.

Where is Bellfontaine? I had some shirt-tail relatives in Starkville many years ago (isn't that where Mississippi State is, Jerry Clower's alma mater)?

Stan

Stan, Bellefontaine is about 10 miles north of Eupora, on hwy 9. Or, if you drew a line from Starkville to Grenada, we're about at the midpoint of the line. I work in Starkville - Home of the Mississippi State Bulldogs. My wife graduated there and walked the same day as Jerry Clower's daughter. I was waiting for my wife to come off the floor of the "Hump", still in the seats after most everyone had left, and I saw Jerry Clower coming up the steps to exit. Before he got where I was sitting, he stuck out his hand and said "Son, how ya doin'?"
I stood up hand shook his hand.
"I'm good Mr. Clower. How're you?" I asked.
"Fine!" he answered. - My brush with fame.

Never got around to looking for the backhoe. I haven't had much time to play so far this year.

Today was the first pretty day I've had free this year. I decided to fire up my real toy and do a little grading. This is a project that needs to be done, but riding that tractor was more like play than work. I need about four more days like today to finish the job, but I probably won't get em before the boys move in to plant cotton. Oh well, there's always next year.

Sposed to rain again, so I'll go back to working on toys 'til it firms up again.

Mitch,

Neat story about meeting Jerry Clower. Another southren humorist I have come to really enjoy is Lewis Grizzard...he was from Georgia, though, so he may never have made it that far west - LOL.

Hope you got all the work done you wanted to before it rained again.

Mr. Huff,
Did you happen to live in Cedar Rapids Iowa?

Not sure? I was hoping this board would catch on. I'm an avid collector of Deere farm toys, and literature. I farm also. The other boards get quite a regular following. This one just seems to get a lot of "one-time-questioners" I'm trying to promote this site with many of my fellow collectors in my area. I just haven't had much success yet. I would have though that the board would be a place for small talk, if not serious questions and answers. There are thousands of collectors out there. Try to promote the site, and I will continue to do the same. Maybe we can stir some interest. What do you collect? Like I said, I favor the green stuff, but have STACKS of old farm magazines. I love anything that keeps farming history intact. I'll try to start posting a few pictures. John Fugit, Louisville, Ky.

John,

I see your name and worthwhile comments on the JD board regularly and enjoy your comments. You'll see me on the JD board from time to time. I'm an old (66) Indiana farm boy from Noblesville, just north of Indianapolis. I have a '41 JD B and a middlin' size collection of farm toys, Green Magazines back to 1987, Toy Farmer magazines back to 1988, Toy Tractor Times magazines back to 1988, and a lot of other stuff the wife thinks I should throw out.

Moved to Iowa in 1961 and to Florida in '77, and worked for a division of Rockwell International for 34 years.

I do an article for Green Mag from time to time (latest one in Feb. issue)...not so much technical but about the good folks and fun to be had in the old tractor hobby.

My brother used to live in Salem, Indiana. 20 years ago or so.

Best regards, and thanks for the comeback. If you go down a little farther on this board (if you haven't already) you'll see what I mean about the non-communicators.

Try again..... Here's a shot of my favorite newer toy. A 4440 Precision, like my real one. John
