The gas station thread over on T Tales got me to thinking. I've got a large, heavy green Texaco hard cover book called "FARM MACHINERY LUBRICATION GUIDES". It has very thick pages, almost like shoe box stuff, and a really thick front and back cover with spiral binding to lay flat when open. There is the likeness of a Case S standard and a beautiful cab-over, tandem axle streamlined Texaco fuel truck on the front cover. Thee copyright date inside a few pages is 1947. There are full lubrication guides for Oliver 60's, 70's , 80's, Massey-Harris Supers, Juniors, 81's and 82's, 30's, 44's, etc... Every big company and most of their tractors, and even machinery is covered, each with it's own page. Has anyone ever seen a book like this one? It is really something, and kind of bridges the gap between tractor and gas station memorabilia. I bought it for $12 at a auto repair garage auction.

Are the outside covers green, kind of Oliver Green shade?? If I remember right the auto/truck book had black covers on it? Incidentally that isn"t called a Cabover it is referred to as a Bubblenose and was the forerunner to the Cabovers.

Yup, Old Sarge, just about Oliver green. Quite the conversation piece.

The body of that truck is one unbroken line from front to back. Just a classic piece of streamline technology. It must have an enclosed bulk tank, like an Oliver 77, 88, etc..fuel tank because of the integration of the body. The body bulges into fenders for the rear wheels, and form a teardrop shape at the rearmost part.

Bubblenose, huh? Whatever the nickname, I think that truck is a thing of beauty, and I would love to have one in my yard. Those trucks, built 50 years ago, were more aerodynamic than the ones we have TODAY. Is that progress?

Many is the time when I looked in them books an counted the zerks I hads ta grease.

BTW ya might go ta King Mountain Lodge just outside of Palmer Alaska an ya'll find a 1940 GMC bubblenose, owned by Jack Betts. He's had it fer years. Still uses it last I heard.

Gotta go on Memorial day weekend fer the whole thing. Him an Lucille put on the grandest BBQ in the State. Moose, Cariboy, Bear, willow ptarmigan, an snowshoe rabbit done over an open pirt. MMM good. Dancin ever nite an fishin in the river fer the young uns. Regular fishin derby fer them, prizes an everthing. Nobudy over 15 allowed in it.

Well, Old Sarge, I said I thought they were beautiful, but to travel 3500 miles just to look at one might be a little drastic, even for me.
