: : I have a TO-35 gas which I cleaned up a little and use as a working tractor.
: : It has been converted to 12 V alternator, so the original tach which was driven of a gear : : box on the back of the generator, is no longer operational
: : Yje obvious solution is an electric tach, but most
: : go up to 8K RPm so mostly useless. I designed and built
: : a low RPM (0-3000) and it works ok, but I would like to know
: : if there is any ideas, apart from going back to original generator, which I don't Have
: : I'm sure this has been done before. any help greatly appreciated.

: I had the same problem when I went to put a new tach on my mf65 that had been converted to an alternator. I bought a 0-4000 electronic tach from J C Whitney. Easy to hookup. If I remember 1 wire to a 12 volt source and 1 wire to the coil but it comes with complete instructions. Took 5 minutes to wire. Works on all gas engines. It is currently in the catalogue for $49.95 and I believe it is the only low rpm electronic tach that you can find. Also fits perfect in the standard 3 3/8 inch hole. Works great. Good luck.

That's probably the one I was thinking of.
