I'm looking for a tractor w/loader for around the house chores - plowing about 5 acres, moving some dirt around, grading the drive, working in the woods. There is a local dealer with a 180 for just under $6K (my high limit). Too much tractor, $ ? Is there something else worth consideration? I am admittedly a rookie here. Not much of a wrench either. Thanks up front for the consideration.

In my opinion the 180 is the finest row crop tractor ever built. They also do well in hay. The 180 is basically a tall 175. Also, I agree with the other guy that the front isn't built well enough to cary a loader very well. If you use a loader often with heavy loads avoid this tractor. David

I have a friend that I swap work with that has a 180 and we use it quite a bit as well as doing all of the maintance on it. It is real good tractor after we lined the brakes and rebuilt the 3 pt. and auxilary hydraulics. The 180 may be a little bit big for just 5 acres but when you consider that a 8N Ford sells for maybe 3500.00 your 180 would be a buy. I would suggest that if possible that you try the tractor out paying close attention to the steering, the hydraulic system (at operating tempature not cold), and the multi-power transmission if so equipped. The only fault with the 180 for a loader is that the 180 is a row crop tractor and has a rather tall front end and this could be rather weak when a lot of weight is placed on the front wheels.

Hi, Iv'e had a 180 for many years and I really like it. It' dependable and easy on fuel. The price you mentioned sounds ok if it is in reasonable shape. The hydralics are a little slow for a loader, but you can live with it. Hope this helps.
