This is a newly purchased machine, so I don't know the history of the steering problem. It wasn't working properly so I filled the resevoir and checked the adjustment. All seems fine there. It appears that the cylinder engages properly, with the piston extending and retracting fully. The steering wheel turns all the way right and left with ease. The main steering arm moves all the way forward and backward as the wheel is turned and as the piston extends and retracts. The lower arm which connects to the tie rods does not move however. All I can guess is that the main steering shaft splines are worn, or the lower or main steering arm splines are worn. Would that make sense or am I missing something?

Hello Rick -

Sounds like stripped splines. Not an expensive problem. Aftermarket replacement parts are available. At least three different combinations of shaft and cast arms on the tractor, depending on serial number - only the latest combination is available, so you might have to replace all three, as we did.

Probably less than $200 - I think A&I is the source.

Thanks Jack, that's the diagnosis. Oddly, the shaft looks ok, but the main arm is worn. Does A&I have a website or do you have a location or phone # for them. My aftermarket prices are about twice what you recall paying. thanks.
