I just bought a MF 235 Diesel tractor and after I got it home and in the barn, I discovered I did'nt know how to shut it off. The switch seems to have only two positions, on and start. The choke cable is disconnected and to start the tractor you have to move the choke linkage to choke it. I did shut it off by choking it, but that sure don't seem like its the proper way. Any help or advice other than to sell the tractor 'cause I'm too dumb to own it, would be appreicated. I do have an operator's manual on order with several other manuals. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for all the advice. I do have an operator's manual on order. I just wanted to be sure I had not messed up anything by the way I shut it down. I am somewhat familiar with gas tractors having been raised on a farm in the early 50s. But I am lost on diesels. Again Thanks for all the help.

If the tractor is a diesel it has no off switch. The fuel cutoff cable shuts the tractor down and a switch mounted on the oil pressure gauge cuts the electrical system on and off. If it is a gasoline engine somebody probably put a switch for a diesel engine on the tractor.

Hi Bob

Is it your first tractor ?

If yes...

I **** STRONGLY **** recomend that you read the operators manual even prior to use the tractor again.

Good luck

Most diesel's dont use the key to stop the motor! You (usually) pull out the fuel cutoff in the injector pump. What yoa call the choke, is really the fuel cutoff. You need an owners manual! Visit the site here for that.
