I've fixed the leak, but now have air in the lines. Tried filling the reservoir and turning lock to lock, but that just made it worse. Is there anyway this can be fixed without taking it to a dealer?----Thanks, Charlie

Charles,

Be patient when working on a power steering system. It is small and recirculates the supply of fluid rapidly. When first filling the system, you will work out the trapped air from the cylinders, but the pump will shear the air into the fluid in the form of foam. This will take a little while for the air bubbles to rise in the reservoir and to separate.

Make sure that you are not sucking more air through a loose fitting or bad hose and be sure the level in the reservoir is above the pickup for the pump.

If you have other problems with the system, please describe the symptoms.

Thank you Ken and thanks to Big Dean as well for helping me by e-mail. I'm a little embaressed to admit this, but I was thinking the oil reservoir was under pressure, during its operation, so I would turn the motor off and refill it after a half dozen "lock to lock's". Of course it would just be pumping more air into the system, after it got low. Anyway, after I left the plug out, per Dean's intruction and carefully kept the level up, while turning the steering wheel, it was fixed in twenty minutes. What a relief! Now I can get some plowing done.----Thanks again.---Charlie
