Does anyone know how much force is required to remove MF 35 rear axles from the bearings/ carrier my 20 ton press does'nt seem to have enough power. I have removed the pressed on collars. Am I doing something wrong? The I & T manual does'nt mention this.

Hi Chris -

They can sometimes be set nearly as hard as the collar. Pressing them off in this case can score the axle, requiring filing to clean up the grooves.

Now, when we run into a stiff one, we cut it off with a torch. Usually destroys the seal too, but it's good insurance to replace both bearing and seal anyway when you're this far into it.

Thanks for the info. Actually the seals are the reason I am in this deep anyway! The brakes were soaked. All I need to do now is find someone in Atlanta really good with a torch! Thx again.

Had to take mine to the shop with the largest press in town 60 tons said he had to heat them up cherry red to get them to come off. The torch idea sounds like the way to go. Jack sure is alot of help!
