I have a '49 MH 30 which was converted to 12V by previous owner. It has a single post generator, and the wiring is cobbled together, bypassing the switch. I have the wiring diagram for the original 6V, but would like to know how this 12V conversion should be properly wired.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Don

See "Step-by-Step 12V Conversion" in Article
Archive. I changed my MH30 to 12V this winter and it
works great. The diagram has no errors, but you'll
have to change to alternator system. Not mentioned in the article, I would change the ammeter for something of 60amps or better, the alternator can supply much more than 30 amps. Also I would recommend that you place a electrical junction block behind the angle plate that holds the air cleaner. This is so you don't accumulate a tangle of wires under the dash. It could be hairy trying to figure out which wire goes to what in such a small space. Some of the wires can be a bit hefty too. Another reason this is a good idea is that if you ever need to separate the trans from engine frame, you just have to unscrew the wires from the block instead of the dash. You can make one out of a piece of 3/4in X 4in X 4in plywood. Just pass some machine screws through the wood as your tie points ensuring the heads are pulled well into the wood, and a couple more to bolt the block to the plate. Put a 4X4in piece
of tractor inner tube under the block as an insulator. Pass all your wires to the tie points instead of in the dash and route your wires from
there.

Hope this helps.
