3PH 2 way Hydraulic Cylinder Question?

I was wondering if this was normal. When I park the tractor with the cylinder in the
full up position (arms raised), the rod will slowly extend (move out) and the arms will lower.
It takes about 2 weeks for the rod to go down to it's full 8 inches or so, and the
only weight on the 3PH is the arms and attachments approx 50 lbs. Under power the piston works normally and as far as I can tell the bypass valve works fine too.

Thanks for any answers.

Hey, I am a diesel mechanic as my profession. I work at a Caterpillar Dealership. It is not uncommon for a hydrolic cylinder to leak down over a period of time. There are some instances where the specs. will give you certain amounts of leakage. If you have a spec book, you might just find what the allowable leakage is. I would say if this cylinder only leaks 8 in. in 2 weeks, I would consider that pretty good, and not a problem. I hope that I have helped you.

Thanks for the info Larry.

After I posted, I spoke to my buddy who has
a 8N ford. He said whenever he parks in "up"
his starts to go down too, and thats an internal
hydr system. So I guess it's normal.
