I've got a couple of 101 Juniors and on the first one I painted the headlights black and on #2 I painted them red. Not that it makes any big difference but I was wondering, just how did the tractors from that era (say the 40's) come from the factory? By the way, just in case one of you fellas is gonna be funny, I didn't paint the lens black or red - I left them unpainted !!!

They were black until 1953. After that they were painted red.

Alberta Mike: The '45-'51 massey lights with
bulb and chrome ring were originally black. the
sealed beams from '51-'52 on, were also black. I
would not risk saying all triple series were
black, as chaos set in by '56, when Deere entered
merger talks and the M-H heirs sold their company
stock. Remember the air stack controversy? The triple series halted, when the color scheme conflict arose: silver muffler w/bronze air stack
color clash or silver stack paint from the rear
rims? comical. Michael

I had 1 light remainding on my mh30 when I
got it and it was a standard black light from that era. I took it and put it on the back as an implement light. I took my halogen fog lights that I hardly use off my pickup and put them on the tractor. One promply burned out. I'm now of the opinion that the halogen
industry is one of those fast buck industries what
with the the bulbs at 15$ and the whole lite set
at 29$. I'm waiting for a farm auction and will
try to find a set of those lites with the good ole' twist on 12V cheapie bulbs.
