I had a rather interesting thing happen to me this weekend. While I was hooking up a back blade with the tractor at idle, I heard this "ping and clatter" coming from the engine. Out flies a rather large nut followed by a equally large lock washer. As I bent over to pick up these pieces and tried to figure where they may have come from, the cooling fan starts to make its was THROUGH my radiator. By the time I reached the fuel cutoff, I had water, steam and copper fins everywhere. I'm still puzzled why this might have happened. Is this Massey Ferguson's way of telling me I have enough hours on the tractor to require a radiator replacement?
This happen to anyone else?

This type of thing does happen on occasion. Once in a while a pulley nut will loosen up. It's hard to check everything. My neighbor had this happen to his 1800 Oliver. About $400 later the problem was corrected (new radiator, new fan, new hoses, etc.).

Never had that happen, but my 180's fan will occasionally contact the shroud when the frame is twisted by heavy loader loads.

Hope I can keep the tractor running better than my implements are lately.

Have a good day,
