I own a Massey Ferguson 65 the serial number is 513610 Any advice re when this tractor was manufactured would be appreciated. I am going to reinstall the generator and the regulator to this tractor however I cant find the old position where the regulator was installed. Some other 65s I have looked at had the regulator installed in behind the dash but on my tractor there doesnt seem to be any holes to bolt a regulator unit to.

Andrew, Your tractor is indeed a MF 65, built at Coventry, England. The serial number indicates it weas built in 1959, and will therefore be a Mk1, fitted with thre Perkins A4-192 engine. These tractors were produced until Nov 1960, when the Mark 2 version was introduced. Mk1's are fairly rare and are well worth restoring. The regulator fits within a space between two plates, under the plate which carries the battery. It's hard to explain as its location is'nt immediately obvious but the regulator has a threaded rod at each side. These locate into a hole on either side of the two plates, one of which is slotted vertically. The securing nuts go onto the threaded rods on the outside of the steel plates at each side. If you let me have your postal address I could let you have a copy of an exploded drawing which would simplyfy things considerably. I'm restoring a Mark 1 65, so I'm well aware of the complications involved. If you need any help or advice, please e-mail me and I'll do what I can. Hope this has helped you and not confused you, Regards,
Pete.

Andrew, your serial number does not equate to a massey 65. MF65 started with serial #650001 in 1957 of which there were 23 manufactured that year. Numbers run up from there until 1964, last year of manufacture.
