I want to install a 1 wire alternator without damaging the original generator bracket. Is an adaptor available?

C.T.,

I would not use the one-wire arrangment unless the motor on your tractor will rev high enough to cause the alternator internal exciter to activate. Maybe the MF 35 will rev higher than my A-C Model B, but I had to go to the 3-wire alternator because the motor on the little A-C would not rev high enough to get the alternator to start charging.

I put on the 3-wire and the thing starts charging the minute it starts. The one-wire is a little simpler, but not as flexible in my small experience.

Good Luck.

I installed a Delco 10SI (actually a Japanese alternator that was smaller diameter but had same lug pattern) and used the old generator bracket on my MF-2135 (135 industrial.) I cut some 1/4" pipe to make spacers so the long bolt wouldn't squeeze the bracked out of shape when I tightened it up.

Simple and it worked fine.

Just a couple of suggestions: 1. If this is a
tractor that you don't run very often (once a week
@ least), do not use a single wire setup. The
field wire will drain a battery.(my experience) 2.
MAKE SURE the belt lines up before
starting/revving the engine. Even a belt can
damage a radiator when it gets tangled in the fan.
(Happened on a used car I bought.) If you need a
wiring diagram for using a 3 wire internally
regulated Delco, e-mail me & I'll send you one I
found. If you find another make sure the field
line (F) or (2) is on a switched line or you'll
have the same drain.
Good luck & email w/questions - ALAN
P.S. your belt adjuster may need to be longer,
often one from an older car has more throw. We
used one from an old Dodge Duster.
