I am having difficulty steering, I replaced the filter and filled cracked open the bottom line from the pump (following I & T Manual) and still gets sticky or sometimes won't steer. Is there another place to try to get rid of air or do I have another problem?

I didnt know their was a filter for the power steering and the filter came apart. I cleaned it
out and put in a new one. It still locked in place
for a while and eventually came out of the sticking or locking about 1 year later.
It has steered good for the past two years

I also had replaced the filter( it feel apart once and small parts of it had to be in the whole system) One other thing I went through was the steering cylinder pistons up in front. They have a teflon square ring on each one. The junk from the filter caused some galling on one side. It was so nicked up I replaced one piston. It worked better, but not right till I repared the hand pump. Nice to know other people have had so much fun with mf180 power steering. Good Luck, Kent

Lance, I have an early 180, and have had problems for some time. The main culprit was the hand pump which is a saginaw design. I most recently pulled this hand pump and found the problem to be a snap ring on the very bottom had broken. The symptom has that it only would turn in one direction, but it had been sticking on occasion for a long time. There was also some crud in the bottom of the unit. I used a parts blow up and was able to get the parts from a local(central OH) dealer. All parts were in stock except the snap ring. I think this is a weak point for this model, it is the first chapter in the service manual. Good Luck, Kent
