MF 65 Diesel hydraulic pump hooked to pto?

Picked up a 65 diesel (1964?) that had a problem with the pto grinding when trying to use engine driven pto. Took the clutch inspection plate off, set the 3 cap screws to .060, and now the pto clutch works - but - noticed that if I've left the brush hog up a bit to start it that as soon as I push the clutch all the way down (pto clutch releases), the 3 point 'leaks off' and lets the mower drift down but returns to where I have it 'positioned' as soon as I re-engage the pto. Is the pump driven off the pto and is the 3 point supposed to drift down like that, or is this what the previous owner was trying to cover up by having the clutch mis-adjusted.

Thought I should check to see if this is normal behavior before I assume I've got a valve leaking off and start digging into the hydraulic system.

Thanks in advance for input.

Bob

Bob the hydraulic pump shaft does turn the PTO shaft. I have always said if it takes 30 minute or longer for it to drift down to the ground leave it a lone You probably are not going to help it that much anyway even when they were new they drifted down. If it leak more than that I would recommend you rebuild the Pump & cylinder.

Hi Dean - thanks for the info - looks like I'd have a tough time 'fixing' this one ;).

Thanks again,
Bob
