Maybe I just don't know how to operate this draft/position control thing. I put the bush-hog on the tractor, it wouldn't pick it up. Put draft control lever all the way up, pull up on the position control, the lift starts to pick up, but as soon as it sees some pressure it stops. I take the top link off, lift picks up fine, quickly, no problem. I can pull on the rocker-link where the top link hooks to and make the lift stop. I know the pump is working fine because I replaced the top-link with a chain between the bush-hog and the differential casting (casting has 3 flanges sticking out with holes through where I put a long pin through). It then picks up the bush-hog with no problems. Also checked the fluid level, it's fine. The rocker link where you hook the top-link pivots on 2 socket-head-cap-screws, and the bolt heads or holes in the link, or both are worn quite a bit. I wondered if this could be letting the link move around to much and mess with the control rod or something. It seems to me that the lift is just trying to operate in draft-control mode rather than position-control, but I can't find any combination of lever positions that work. Maybe I just don't know how to operate this thing. Thanks for the help.

I went to daughter's house yesterday where my 165 is waiting for the rain to leave for a few days so they can cut hay. Checked for slack in the master control spring/piston assembly. Sure 'nuff, I could push it in about 3/8". Didn't have tools with me to fix it then, I'll maybe get to do that today. Thanks for the help.

Stan The plunger that runs through the Master control spring is pulling out to far & neutralizing the control valve. Either the spring is weak or the load is to heavy for the tractor to lift. There is a way to stop this by adjusting the draft stop screw in the draft linkage inside the lift cover. This is fairly common on the 100 series Massey Ferguson tractors. The service manual calls for a gap of 0.160 to 0.180 Instead if you are going to use the tractor to plow with set it at 0.100 To 0.120 if you don’t use it to plow with I would set it at 0.060 0.080. If you need to know more on this send me a email
