Odd part request...

My uncle is a tractor mechanic in turkey and usually deals with tractors made in turkey, where parts are easy to find. A customer has come to him with a tractor with a massey engine that needs repairing. There is a specific 'part' that he needs that just cannot be found in turkey, and so has asked for my assistance. I don't know much about tractors, but he's given me the motor name: a massey 1080, 73 model, 318 motor. Hopefully that will make sense to somebody here. The part that he's after is a replacement cylinder seal. Here's the hard part. I have a 'stencil' of the part which is approx. 20cm x 60cm, with four large holes along the middle, surrounded by lots of smaller holes (about the size of a 5p or 1p piece). I've been told it's a cylinder seal (my own translation of the turkish part). I'm afraid that without a more detailed name of the actual part, i may not be able to locate it. Does anyone here know anything about what i've described? Can anyone here be of any help to me?

I would appreciate all the help I can get, thank you...

Baris Tosun

Dear Mr Tosun,

I'm soorry but I'm not able to help your uncle. There however is another thing. When your father is in the tractor bussines in Turkey he could maybe help us. We are looking for complete stocks of spare parts belonging to German build Lanz Bulldog tractors which have runned in Turkey op to the middle sixties. Does your father know any poaple having some stocks left or does he know any Lanz Bulldog or Steam tractors for sale. We would buy them all if the price is reasonable.

Yours sincerely,

Anton W Derksen.

Sounds like a cylinder head gasket is what you are looking for. You might want to look up some Massey Ferguson dealers in Europe if there are none in Turkey, they should be able to send you one.

Thanks for the reply Peter. I was just wondering, any particular type of cylinder head gasket, or will any one do? Are there like, many different types or is there only one cylinder head gasket in the engine?

Thank You.

It would have to be a cylinder head gasket for the engine you mentioned.
