I have always wanted to get rid of the clunking in the front end of my tractors so today I replaced my spindle bushings. The job is not very difficult but removing the old bushings can be a chore because they are so thin. I wanted to share a little trick in removing the old bushings that worked great for me. The spindles are 1-1/4" in diameter. I put a 1" pipe tap in the bushings and threaded the bushings and left tap in place and then I used a punch and hammer to knock the bushings out. You'll also need a reamer to ream the bushings to the correct size after installing the new bushings. The spindles will be worn as well as the bushings and so you won't be able to make them like new but you'll get the majority of the slop out. This and a new axel pivot bushing and my tractor is almost like new. No more clunking in the front end.

One other suggestion. I used a hack saw blade and partially cut through the bushing. I then used a chisle to bend the bushing in. Then I used pliers to remove the old bushing. Reeming the new bushings is a story all in itself. If anyone is interested email me and I will tell you what I had to do.
