I have a Massey-Harris #20 that my father bought in 1946. I had major engine work done a year or so ago. Since approximately that time, the battery (new) has not been charging. The generator and regulator (new) have been checked and said to be OK. At this time, when I start the tractor, the ammeter needle goes to the left of center instead of + side and occasionally gyrates wildly. When I turn on the lights, the needle holds steady at the center of the gauge. The battery is hooked to a positive ground, which original 81/82 manual indicates it should be. I have received advice from people who restore old tractors, but the problem persists. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

The wires may be hooked backwards on the ampmeter.
Does the battery stay up ?

Battery on M-H #20 does seem to be holding charge. Do I just pop out gauge and reverse wires? Thanks for your help!!
