After my dad's tractor rolled into the pond a couple of weeks ago, I thought that I had taken care of everything but it seems that his steering box filled with water and is pushing oil out the little hole about half way up the steering column. Can anyone tell me how you can drain the steering box and replace the oil. I can see a fill hole but no place to drain. Any sugestions would be appreciated. Bob in CA

Bob, the manual steering on my 63 MF35 does not have a drain. I discovered water in mine during rebuild but fortunately no damage. You need to get the water out before a freeze, since it can crack the housing (maybe not a big concern in Ca.)If you loosen one of the side plates most of the water will drain but you have to pull it out far enough to clear the o-ring. Good luck!

I HAVE REMOVED THE WATER FROM THE STEERING BOX ON SEVERAL M-F 35'S BY REMOVING THE BATTERY , AND THE OIL FILLER PLUG ON TOP OF THE STEERING BOX,AFTER DOING THIS GET A HAND CLEANER BOTTLE PUMP ONE THAT HAS APP 12 INCH SUCTION PIPE ON IT AND CAREFULLY WORK IT TO THE BOTTOM OF THE GEAR BOX AND THEN JUST PUMP THE WATER OUT GOOD LUCK
