Help! I have a MF 165 tractor with a perkins diesel engine and a generator. I am trying to get my fuel gauge to work. I have put in a new fuel sending unit in the tank plus a new gauge and I still can't get it to work. I think my wiring is screwed up somehow. Also the generator is almost new and works good if this makes any difference. Thanks for any help that can be offered.

Hi, Diesels use a oil pressure SW to act like the ignition SW on a car. The SW is in the area behind the oil pressure guage. Look and see if the fuel guage works while craking the starter, the fuel circuit is complete through the starter seleniod during starting. Asuming you have an alternator the alternator must work. Also if your mechanical voltage regulator has been replaced with an electroic one the fuel guage will not work. Your operators manuel has circuit diagram. (Massey calls it an AC generator) Bill

HELLO JIM CHECK THE OIL PRESSURE SWITCH ON THE BACK OF OIL PRESSURE GAUGE.IT HAS TWO WIRES GOING IN TO IT.WITH THE ENGINE OFF ONE SIDE SHOULD HAVE POWER WHEN YOU START THE TRACTOR THE OTHER SIDE SHOULD HAVE POWER.THIS WIRE SHOULD PUT POWER TO FUEL GAUGE.IF IT DOES NOT HAVE POWER TO BOTH SIDES WITH ENGING RUNING OIL PRESURE SWITCH IS BAD.YOU CAN BY THIS SWITCH AT MOST AUTO PARTS STORES. GOOD LUCK LANCE
