Yes Massey Harris 44's are a fine tractor, I bought one engine froze, Now Im looking for a place to buy a set of rings and wet sleeves for MHA 277 G 44-22 engine they are 4" bore and stroke, mine also has live hydraulics, it has a clutch lever by the brake pedals.

If Massey made a million of those 44's, then half of them ended up here in Alberta, Canada. I'm exagerating of course but there are a ton of standard (wide) tread 44's up here. Every week you see between 4 and 6 of them advertised in the local Buy and Sell Paper. A lot of guys still use them for small hay operations, driving grain augers, moving winter snow, etc. As popular and long-lifed as they are, I'd have to say they're a pretty good unit. Up here, there are lots of parts tractors too I believe.

I love my old 44, built very well, simple to work on. Below is a link to a picture of mine. All I have done to it in the 10 years I've had it are new tires, a better seat, & aftermarket power steering.

I'm looking into fixing it up this winter, and while the local MF dealer comes up short on some parts, there are plenty of them in the junkyards, and quite a few aftermarket companies have parts for them.

They're comparable in size to an M Farmall, but have live 2-way hydraulics, which makes life easier. It would be nice to have a live PTO also, but I don't think that was available until the 444 series.

Hope this helps,

Steve NW WI

Live PTO was available on the 44's.
I have one. And yes they are very reliable and powerful. They are comparable to an 'M' Probably a little heavier with the cast wheels front and rear.
