my nice mf 165, continental gas engine, has always run cool. a helper drained it a couple of times and put new antifreeze in it. when i checked the floating balls later, it was still so rusty looking i could barely see the balls. my plan is to drain by taking off the lower hose and also some of the additives for flushing.

my expectation is that there is no thermostat. does anyone know what temperature and other thermostat details are desirable? this tractor is really handy around the farm here, and i want to do good maintenance on it.

thanks for any help.

regards,

qw

HI,MY ADVICE WOULD BE,REMOVE RADIATOR AND FLUSH WITH HOT WATER,PREFERABLY A PRESSURE WASHER.ALSO CHECK CORE CONDITION,MAY NEED WROUGHTED OUT.NEXT FLUSH ENGINE BLOCK,SAME MANNER AS RADIATOR.FILL WITH WATER&RUST/SCALE REMOVER,BLOCK RAD.WITH CARDBOARD & BRING TO OPERATING TEMP.AND REDRAIN,AFTER IT COOLS.REFLUSH AS OFTEN AS NECESSARY,UNTIL COOLANT IS CLEAR.THEN REFILL WITH 60/40,70/30 ANTI-FREEZE MIX,ADD CONDITIONER TO EXTEND WATER PUMP SEALS&BEARING LIFE.LUCK 2 YA TAZ
