I just bought a 1972 MF165 and would like to know how to identify if it is a Perkins diesel. Thanks for any help.

I agree with Pete. I do not believe MF ever put any other type of diesel engine in the 165, other than a Perkins. Also, most of the other diesel engined tractors MF ever made were fitted with Perkins diesel engines, with an occasional oddball exception( I believe a couple of models had GM diesels).

As long as we are on the MF 165. Can anyone give me their thoughts/inputs as to how good is this tractor overall? Thanks!

I had a 1974 MF 165 and it had a label on the intake manifold that read AD4 203 Perkins. If you are interested in buying an origional MF owners manual for this tractor, email me.

If it's diesel It's got to be a Perkins A4 212 engine. No other diesel engine was fitted.
Regards,
Pete.
