Can anybody tell me if there is a difference in the horsepower of the A3-152 in the MF35 versus the AD3-152 in the MF135 and in the MF240.

Hello Bob -

Hp kinda depends..... On which reference, and how the writer holds his mouth, I guess....

Nebraska rates the A3 in the MF35 as 30 PTO, 37 peak at 2000 rpm. They give the 135 AD3 37.8 peak @2000.

MF service manuals:
AD3 in the 40B: 42 PTO, 48 Brake @ 2250 rpm
AD3 in 235: 42 PTO, 45 brake @ 2250 rpm
AD3 in 235: 34 PTO, 36 brake @ 2000 rpm There appears to be more power available with the higher peak rpm setting. Don't know what the 240 setting or ratings are. It's the same basic engine - pump settings might be changed a bit.

Our AD3's might give a bit more power than the A3's, but not enough to write home about! They do start a bit easier with the revamped interior design (hollow topped pistons, precombustion chambers eliminated).

I have both engines but in industrial tractors. Both are rated 45 hp. I can't notice any difference when using them. They both are used very hard. The gas engine starts very fast in winter the AD3 is a different story even when plugged in when it's very cold. The AD3 starts better than the new Deere backhoe I have. Maintance and overhaul the AG3 (Gas Engine) is much better for me. Try taking a head off a AD3 when carbon is around the head studs. When taken care of these engines last along time. Jack
