Help me please. I recently bought a 1962 MF35 Deisel. From what I understand it has the Perkins regular injected engine. What I don't know or understand fully is an option called "Multi-Power". This consist of a lever marked High and Low on the right side of the panel. Any information about this option would be of great assistance. The tractor runs fine and seems to be problem free (after installation of the new clutch and auxillary pump to run the loader) but I am still interested in learning more about this tractor. It's replacing a Ford 2N and John Deere Model M so as you can imagine I have entered a new world of tractors. Thanks for your help

Hey Brian, can you tell me where your auxilary pump is located on your 35? Did you get it used or new? If knew where?

Thanks for your time

Multi-Power was a "shift-on-the-go" option. It gives free-wheeling in "High" - so be careful!! There is no engine breaking in High. This option was noted for causing troubles - often the operator allowed the tractor to "free wheel" in high before he woke up and then when he shifted to Low there was a CRUNTCH!/BANG!/JERK! as the transmission was forced into Low. It is/was expensive to repair after a lot of such treatment. The shifting is done hydraulically. If you have a typical 6 forward, 2 reverse transmission then MP gives you 12 forward and 4 reverse gears! A lot of choices in '62. My opinion is if the transmission fluid is kept clean and/or replaced according to instructions (and the operator stays awake) that most of the MP problems don't happen.

Rats!
Free wheeling is in Low not High. I guess I am dyslexic!
Sorry for any confusion.
