I have a MF 135, but know nothing about tractors.

How do I determine what year the tractor was made? (And for that matter, does anyone know what years they made these?)
The serial number plate located below the instrument panel is missing.

How do I determine which engine it has? I know it's diesel, but I don't know which one. (I understand that 2 different diesel engines were used in the 135's.)

I would like to get an operator's manual and possibly a service manual. Any ideas where to get these? And don't I need to know the year and engine to get the correct manuals.

Thanks
Chris

I have an extra Operator's Manual. $20. Prepaid freight.
You've got a great bullet proof tractor!

MF-135 were made from early 60s into the 70s. Three cylinder Perkins diesel all along, early and late the gas was four cylinder Continental, mid years (beginning 1969) was 3 cylinder Perkins.

My 135 was made in 1968. I'd presume there is a different model number for the two types of Perkins diesel engines and an engine serial number may help locate the year of production.

There is an I&T shop manual on the 135 that helps a great in maintenance and adjustments, but its no match for the owner's manual. Mine came with the owner's manual for a later year and didn't cover my Continental engine.

One winter day after freezing at a dealer's going out of business auction and seeing boxes of books go for $100 and up, I came home and called MF headquarters which were in Des Moines yet. They gave me a number to call in Wisconsin where I was able to order the correct owner's manual and also a parts book for about $50 total. I doubt either address works now, you will have to work down from Agco.

One other time I was able to call MF in Des Moines and get to the design engineers to ask about front axle capacity with a loader. Surely something like still exists somewhere in the world so you could find out vintage for matching the manual. Having all the details from the engine plate, and the serial number (and casting number) from the transmission and rear axle should help too.

Most any farm store will have or can get the I&T manual, CT (888-8CT-FARM) included.
