I recently purchased a Massey with Multi-Power. The previous owner tried to fix the the shift mechanism, (shift linkage), but wasn't able to reach the valve shifting rod. I haven't looked at the transmission yet, but the tractor is stuck in high range. Do I need to split the tractor to access the shifting valve or can I can I re-connect the linkage without a major tear apart? . Should I just re-position the valve to the low range and forget about fixing it?

If your tractor has a Indepedent PTO(IPTO), the same pump is used for both. So if the multi-power goes out all together you lose the PTO at the same time.

I've got a MF165. If your tractor is stuck in 'High' multi-power, you will have engine breaking for slowing down or to hold back the tractor if you're using a rotortiller. There is no engine breaking in 'Low' multi-power, if you are going down a hill on the road it will free wheel or coast, better have real good brakes.

Some of the tractors I've seen have disconnected the multi-power linkage so you only have 'Low', specially if the seals are leaking at the input shaft to the transmission.

Yours may be a case of the control rod to the valve inside the bellhouse being disconnected.

I am not sure if it is the same multipower as on our MF 180, but ours never worked till we did some major work to the tractor. At that time (when the tractor was split) I removed the valve and had a dealer look at it, it was bad we then replaced it with a rebuilt unit or a replacement it looked new but I bought it from a salvage yard. It gives you a whole different speed range when it functions when the tractor starts to bog down go to low range and it is much easier on your drive train. I like it the tractor has to be split to replace. If you're going to split it I would say to fix it, if not then I would use it as is. It is a nice feature when it works! You might want to price a unit from an aftermarket source. I know at the time the dealer wanted more than the salvage yard. It may not even be the same part for a 150 so you better check. I don't think that the engine will break you if it is stuck in high, so if you're in high and going down hill you had better have good brakes. And I don't know enough about it to tell you how to get it stuck in low multipower only. Ours was in low so we really never knew that it was not working till it was replaced. Better get some more armchair advise before you split the thing. Talk to someone that knows a 150. Good Luck, Kent
