Thinking of buying a 231s but heard the hydraulic system is only 4.4 gpm and was weak.(can't find gpm in the specs.) Going to use this with a 6 ft.
bushhog,5 ft. heavy duty boxblade, and a 20 blade disc. Does anyone know about this model tractor and can it handle the above? Also does it have wet or dry brakes? Thanks for any info.....will be greatly appreciated. Don

Don, you're right, 231 hydraulics are nothing to write home about, but for what you are doing it should be good. The few we have had through our yard seemed like they didn't have a very good power steering system either. Don't know about the brakes, but I'll look on the one we have tomorrow and get back to ya...my guess is that they are dry as the design is still basically a 135. Pete

We use one of these tractors for running a 9 foot haybine, a small square baler and plowing with a 3/12 massy plow. It is also used for discing, and cuiltivating. Although the power steering is very light it seems to work ok. The brakes are the dry type, not the most effective when you have a baler and a loaded wagon on behind. The motor runs well, starts very well, and is very good on fuel. My farm is only about 60 acres but in the two years I've had this tractor I've put about 200 hours on it.
