I am restoring a 1958 MF 50, this tractor is equipped with a factory loader. The paint colors vary, the loader is yellow, the engine and frame is silver and the fenders, hood, etc. is red. This tractor has been re-painted within the last 10 years and the colors do not seem original. I would really like to re-paint the tractor with the original colors. Where can I find colored literature or information on the color.

My family has owned a Massey Ferguson 50 since it was bought in 57. Also a Ford 9n and a Ford Ferguson. We still have the 50 and 9n. The early Fergusons and fords had the grey engine and chassie, our 50 does still have the original paint and engine is like dark gold color almost a bronze that may just be from old age thought. The seat, fenders, hood, side panels are red. Grills are grey.

I have a 1957 MH50 and I have looked in different manuals for this info. Some are color books at the tractor stores. I found 1 book that showed history of tractors and it talked about the gold on the continental engines. I had never heard that until I started rebuilding my 50. My completed valve cover is gold...sorta like yellowish gold and the block has traces of gold all around the bellhousing. Somone has repainted mine red on the block. I suggest you look at all the tractor stores you can find at their book collections. If I find where I got that info I will let you know. (the book name)

The original colors on the Ag tractor was silver/grey for all cast parts and MF red for the tin. The yellow loader is probably an industrial loader since yellow is pretty much standard for ind. Equipment. I have a '59 MF50 which still has the original paint. This was very early in the Masse/Harris/Fergerson change over so the shade of the paint could vary if you are a stickler for authenticity. If it were mine, I would paint the loader to match the tin on the tractor. If you do not get any better advice, go to www.atisnet.com and there may be some info on there somewhere.
