I have a MF 35. When I fill the oil in the bottom of the filter to the recommended level it starts leaking. Not a lot. The rubber gasket is just old but the local dealer says they are "obsolete and discontinued". Should I just make a cork gasket or is there some place I can get one? The one that is on the filter is pretty thick and I'm not sure the cork would be any better than the old one.

Hi Bob from Fred
I have a MF-35 and theres no gasket on my oil bath air cleaner. The bottom container that has the oil level mark on it just slides up into the body and the clamp goes around the flare on both pieces to hold it on. I have the Continental Z-134 gas engine. Maybe the others are different. Fred from the Mung Factory

Hello, Bob -

If yours is the round air cleaner, you can make them from o-ring stock and crazy glue or CA, if you have patience.

The lower one is slightly larger than the top one, if memory serves me correctly, but the parts books show only one number for both locations. Part number 1850 832 M1, and still current - I got a couple in October.

We've also buttered the surfaces with silicon sealant (bath tub sealer) in place of gaskets. It seals well, but unless it's applied carefully, makes later removal difficult.

If your cleaner is rectangular, you may want to try the silicon route. The type of product doesn't seem to matter - we use the clear colour rather than white so it isn't so visible.

Good luck, and Happy New Year!

Go to NAPA. If they don't have the gasket, they should have some suitable gasket material, the carve one with a sharp knife or a pair of scissors.
