Just came back from the Southern Farm Show. Looked @ several makes and think I'll go with Massey. Suprised there isn't much price difference in these and the foreign ones. Are these good tractors? Would be using for moving large round hay bales bushhogging mostly, Some discing and such. Thanks!!!!

I use one of these as my main tractor on a 60 acre hobby farm. It gets used for running a 9 foot mower/conditioner, square baler, 3/12 plow, disc and cultivater. I,ve added a canapy and front weights to it. On the positive side I find this tractor is very good on fuel, starts well and has lots of power. (dyno at 45 pto hp) On the negative side when it is pulling hard there is a lot of gear noise in the transmission, the brakes are noisy and require high pedle effort, the power sterring had to be repaired with only a few hours on it, it also dosn't run properly at high rpms if it has a light load. (dealer claims the pump is not set up properly for Canadian fuel) Although this is an inconsitant problem. This tractor replaced a tired MF 35 and although built along the same lines it is a much nicer unit to use. I also have a IH super C that we use for raking hay and other light duties, a tea 2085 ferguson that has a loader and a cub lowboy that has a belly mower. Hope all that helps on your decision.

The 231 is a good tractor for working in tight places. It would be good if you could try one on the hay you plan to handle befoure you buy. There are some hay bales that are to big for this size tractor.
I have a older 35 same hp as 231 and it does a real good job bushoging, disking & plowing but gets lite in the frontend quick when i use it for lifting hope this helps Gordon
