I have a gear pump I,d like to mount but don't know the size(GPM) is there any way to tell by taking the pump apart? Can I use my tractors hydraulic reservoir or do I need a new tank?

Hi Bert. In order to find out what the capacity and pressure of your pump you need to know the Brand and model\serial # of the pump. The manufacturers name is usually cast into the pump body and model and serial numbers are usually stamped on to a flat spot somewhere on the pump. Once you have this info call a hydraulic supply company near you. Most of these guys are helpful and should be able to look up your pump specs . You probably could use your existing reservoir. you will need to have a supply and a return port also you should have a filter in the return line. What type of fluid are you using and how large (gallons\quarts) is your sump? What do you intend to use the hydraulics for?

Gary: Thanks for the info. The pump is going to run an allied loader and my sump will hold about 8 gallons of combination transmission/hydraulic oil.
